In my January 16th 2023 blog entry, I shared my first ChatGPT diagram representing my initial understanding of the ecosystem. Since then, I have read thru a wealth of ChatGPT news/articles that have significantly increased my knowledge about both ChatGPT and Large Language Models (LLM).
But for all of that reading, what I didn’t come across was a diagram that visualizes the ChatGPT ecosystem. As the ChatGPT ecosystem has multiple sections (each of which will likely evolve) - having a reference diagram everyone can use to understand those elements is a GREAT starting point.
So in the absence of such a diagram - I present my latest visualization of the ChatGPT Ecosystem (coupled with capabilities I expect to see). And while this diagram is primarily focused on ChatGPT - I expect that this “framework” will be applicable to any Large Language Model (LLM) implementation.
NOTE: This is a rapidly moving space and I continue to learn nuances about this space. I expect this diagram to evolve - but if you see something you don’t agree with - PLEASE let me know !
Model Sections
The following are my insights into the various pieces of this model
Large Language Model Construction
This section represents the attributes that go into creating a GPT Model - So expect to see Models that are
Open/Closed - This is specific to the data used to create it
Fee / Free - Basically Commercial Models vs Open Source Models
Engagement Sources
This is a subset of the people/devices we should expect to see interact with a GPT Model. One item to note - there is currently NO common “front end” across LLM Models for these people/devices to access
ChatGPT / Model Implementation
There is a LOT within this section of the model - and where I expect to see the most growth. Capabilities I expect to see include:
User Personalization - How you can personalize a model to interact with you
LLM Persona - I expect Models to have their own “personality” - Just like a person !
Conversation History / Cache - What the Model “remembers about you”.
LLM Plugins
As it takes time to create (and train) these models, Plugins will allow models to access “real time” or corporate data.
Summary
I hope you find this diagram useful. I already have plans to leverage this in several upcoming blog entries (so expect to see more of it) !!!
I expect your information will prove useful to individuals that I will share it with. I am encouraging industry association members to familiarize themselves now to enable advantageous preparation for generative AI technologies. The industry wants "use cases" but waiting for adequate relevant "use cases" delays preparation and ensures the industry will lag as followers rather than leaders. We need details, and to become users to envision creative possibilities and benefits warranting early adoption and adaptation. I will share your subscription information and learn how the information is valued. Best Wishes for great success.
